What we publish
We publish scholarly and practical books written for researchers, postgraduate students and professionals. We are particularly interested in:
- Bioinformatics and computational biology
- Molecular biology and biotechnology
- Microbiology and microbiome research
- Structural biology and drug discovery
- Genomics and NGS data analysis
- Interdisciplinary research methods
Books must be original, carefully argued and useful to their readers. We do not publish theses or dissertations unchanged; a thesis can be the starting point for a monograph if it is substantially rewritten for a book readership.
Choose a publishing model
Edited volume (open access)
Volume editors propose the book; chapters come from contributors through a call for chapters and are peer reviewed individually.
Monograph or textbook (royalty)
One or more authors write the whole book. The proposal and the full manuscript are peer reviewed.
Monograph or textbook (open access)
For authors whose funder or institution requires open access. The proposal and the full manuscript are peer reviewed.
Training book or lab manual
Practical guides, lab manuals and workshop handbooks in the life sciences and bioinformatics, reviewed for accuracy by subject experts.
How it works
Send your proposal
Fill in the online proposal form and upload your CV and a sample chapter. There is no fee to submit.
Editorial check
The editors check that the proposal fits our list and is complete. If something is missing, we return it to you to complete.
Proposal review
At least two independent experts assess the proposal: its need, scope, structure and the expertise of the authors or editors.
Decision and publishing agreement
If the proposal is accepted, you receive a publishing agreement for your model, which you review and sign online. It states the licence, any fees or royalties and the delivery date.
Writing and peer review
Edited volumes: we publish a call for chapters; each chapter is peer reviewed individually. Monographs, textbooks and training books: the complete manuscript is peer reviewed before production.
Production
Copyediting, typesetting, cover design and proofs that you approve. Each format gets its own ISBN, and the book (and each chapter of an edited volume) gets a Crossref DOI.
Publication
Open access titles are free to download from this website. Print and ebook editions are available to buy through the links on the book page.
What to include in your proposal
- A working title and a short description of the book (300–600 words) — what it covers and why it is needed now.
- The intended readers (for example postgraduate students, researchers or professionals) and how the book will be used.
- A detailed table of contents with a short summary of each chapter. For an edited volume, the planned chapters and the kinds of contributors you will invite.
- Two or three existing books on the topic and how yours is different.
- The estimated length (pages or words), number of figures and tables, and a realistic delivery date.
- A short CV for each author or editor, with relevant publications.
- A sample chapter (for monographs, textbooks and training books) — or, for an edited volume, the editors' introduction or an outline of the call for chapters.
- Any competing interests, and whether any part of the material has been published before.
Proposals and books must be written in English. Generative AI tools may be used for language editing only and must be declared; they cannot be listed as authors or editors, and authors are responsible for the accuracy of all content and references.
